The Hell Is Up Between Boomstick And Deadpool?!

This is going to be a different sort of post to usual. Rather than it being a factual post or review, this is going to be more speculation based on minor events in Death Battle. None of these theories may end up coming true, but I just thought I might as well get them out there for my own sake.

So we all remember Deadpool, right? Deadpool loves to harass Death Battle hosts Wiz and Boomstick at every chance he gets. He pops up at the slightest mention of his name, even if the episode has nothing to do with him, he mocks Wiz's "stuffy" nature, he makes jokes about Boomstick's mum and ex-wife to his face. He's the ultimate troll of Death Battle.

Yet something puzzles me throughout all this, and that's the whole shtick between Boomstick and Deadpool. Sure, it should just be a case of a dick-measuring contest between the two of them that Deadpool is winning big time, but there are other details that I cannot stop thinking about.

When you think about it, Boomstick and Deadpool are actually very similar. First of all, they're both very hammy and lively with insane streaks, often serving as a twisted form of comic relief in their home series and coming off as rather childish at times. Secondly, they love to hog the spotlight and sometimes see themselves as the true stars compared with the other characters. Then there's the fact that they have a love of weapons and guns and seem to have great knowledge on them too. They're also associated heavily with the colours red and black - Boomstick with his jacket and Deadpool with his merc outfit.

Both also have parental issues that have chipped away at their psyche. Boomstick has a deadbeat father who straight-up abandoned him, leaving him emotionally stunted and as a messed-up individual as a whole. His mother's death didn't help matters either. Similarly, Deadpool had two deadbeat parents (with his mother being an alcoholic) and he was ultimately sent to kill them one time, with his memories of the incident being wiped later on.

Heck, for all of Boomstick's hatred towards Deadpool interrupting his weapons rundown in "Deadpool vs. Deathstroke" and his pun at the end of "Thanos vs. Darkseid", the way that he himself interrupts Ringmaster in the first DBX episode of this year is curiously similar to all of that. When Ringmaster tries to announce his catchphrase before the fight, Boomstick cuts in with his own one and then appears to get a smug satisfaction out of Ringmaster's resulting temper tantrum.

You can just sense the Deadpool troll vibes dripping from him.

In fact, he even has the nerve to claim that he's "the one bringing the star power to this two-bit pony show", much like how Deadpool claimed that you couldn't have a season without him. So yeah, way for the pot to call the kettle black, right?

With all of these similarities, you'd think that these nutcases would get on a lot better with one another. And yet Deadpool still proceeds to drive Boomstick up the wall at any chance he gets.

Let's discuss Deadpool's fight with Pinkie Pie. Initially, the two are complete strangers to one another and get into a fight over Pinkie's use of the "Welcome" song. However, as soon as they both discover how similar they are to one another (breaking of the fourth wall, love of chimichangas/cherrychangas), they're both hugging it out like old friends and going on exciting adventures with one another.

"Does this mean we're friends now?" "Uh, best friends!"

Pinkie even gets to throw a party for Deadpool upon discovering that it is his birthday.

But Boomstick has known Deadpool both from the comics and ever since he first appeared on the show, much longer than Pinkie Pie has. He's even quick to notice similarities between himself and others at times, such as with Sarge who he admires. And yet unlike with Sarge, he still looks upon Deadpool with disdain. Of course, these different reactions could all be down to a different number of factors - Pinkie's friendly and all-loving nature, Boomstick clashing with people of similar personalities to him such as Ringmaster, etc.

Yet bizarrely enough, there are times when it would seem that Boomstick doesn't hate Deadpool as much as he lets on. One strange moment was when he had to do Deadpool's second preview by himself because Wiz was sick. He's surprisingly respectable about Deadpool's abilities throughout the video (apart from a couple of jokes about Deadpool's tumours, but that's part of his shtick with other contestants), up until he mentions his fourth-wall breaking abilities. When nothing happens, he repeats himself twice, and then has this to say:

Boomstick: "Crap. I had this whole joke planned. 'Cause he just didn't feel like showing up. Typical Deadpool."

If Boomstick seems to get so agitated when Deadpool appears in the main episodes themselves, why was he so willing to summon him when Wiz wasn't around? Did he want to discuss something private? Or does he simply not hate the guy as much as he lets on? And why does he go straight back to freaking out when Deadpool appears in the actual episode whilst Wiz is around?

In fact, even with Wiz around, there are times where it seems that Boomstick agrees with some of the Crimson Comedian's comments. Take this snippet of dialogue from Season 5's "Thanos vs. Darkseid", when Deadpool yet again tries to steal the show.

Deadpool: "Oh, come on, buddy, you can't have a Death Battle season without Deadpool, right?"

Wiz: "Uh, we did. The last one."

Deadpool: "Oh, nobody counts that one. I mean, that's the year you put a dog in a trenchcoat against a goddamn bear! (laughs) What did you think would happen?"

Boomstick: (chuckles) "Yeah."

No sarcasm, no real bitterness, Boomstick actually acknowledges that Deadpool has a point and seems vaguely amused by it.

It was Wiz's idea to have Deadpool get involved in a hopeless fight in "Deadpool vs. The Mask" in the first place, with Boomstick simply going along with it and even showing some doubt that it would work. When Deadpool was ultimately slain by the Mask, it was Boomstick who was first to bring up how ridiculously one-sided the fight was and that the hosts had let their grudge against him get the better of them. Afterwards, a posthumous letter from Deadpool arrives thanking the hosts for helping him to find his "true self". Ultimately it gets smacked into Boomstick's face and, rather than share it with Wiz immediately, reads it by himself.

Poor Boomstick. Why couldn't Deadpool have just sent the letter without the depressing music?

Only afterwards does Wiz finally get to read the letter, and even then Boomstick is still the first one to find the gem that brings Deadpool back to life (much to their horror).

Why didn't it show both hosts reading the letter together, considering that it was addressed to both of them? Sure, it could be that it was easier to animate the segment this way and that two hosts on the screen at the same time in a situation like this would have looked cluttered, but you'd think that the Mask would target Wiz first considering that he was the one who set up the fight in the first place.

I mentioned Pinkie Pie earlier, so let's get back to that fight. When the "battle" ends with peace and friendship all around, both hosts are disgusted and horrified. Boomstick in particular is unhappy that there was no bloodshed. But rather than target both characters, it appears that he decided to just show scorn towards Pinkie instead (likely because she was the one who derailed it into a friendship session in the first place). He specifically insults her as the episode ends and he even landed a nasty punch to her face the next time she showed up. Didn't do such a thing to Deadpool.

No, I'm not uploading a screenshot of the incident. I'm not a monster like that.

Episode 150 is coming up, and this will apparently be the one in which Boomstick finally reunites with his deadbeat father. The signs are heavily leading towards Sarge (voiced by Matt Hullum) for that. But during the reveal trailer for it, Curtis Arnott (the voice actor for Deadpool) was also revealed. And apparently this episode is going to be...different to usual.

Either way, if the interaction between Boomstick and Deadpool gets brought up again, I see three ways this could (hopefully) go:

The Sudden Realisation Route.

Things start off as the usual fare, with Deadpool driving Boomstick up the wall yet again. But eventually, something causes them to connect. Boomstick's daddy issues could provide a good catalyst for this - given that Deadpool also had a poor relationship with his parents and lost them, he might even end up empathising with Boomstick on the matter. This could finally give them a reason to put their conflict to rest and who knows, Deadpool might even turn again Boomstick's father should the latter meet up with him.

The Tsundere Route.

To make times more complicated, Boomstick could have secretly shown appreciation for Deadpool all along, as hinted by him trying to summon him or appreciating his comment on Smokey and McGruff, but Deadpool's constant trolling drove him up the wall and possibly made him annoyed at how "ignorant" Deadpool could be with regards to their connections. Additionally, Boomstick's hatred of Pinkie Pie could be because Deadpool shows no appreciation for him, but he shows appreciation for a pink pony who'd rather make cupcakes than fight anyone. Hey, it might be Boomstick even wants to be more than friends with him, wink wink nudge nudge. ;)

The Long Lost Daddy Route.

This idea relies on an ugly understanding and lack of good communication. Given their similarities, Boomstick could have predicted that Deadpool was his true father (or simply been told that this was the case, probably by Ringmaster) and hated him for those reasons, with the attempted summon being so he could finally confront him on the matter. However, certain incidents could lead to him discovering the truth - that Sarge was the man who caused him lifelong misery all along and Deadpool was entirely innocent. Hopefully they could patch things up between each other once this truth comes to light.

In a particularly bizarre twist, it could also be that Deadpool was the true father all along, with Sarge being a decoy and Boomstick's hatred towards him being due to subconscious emotions. I highly doubt this one though, considering all the foreshadowing from Sarge's side.

Alternatively, it could just be that Deadpool harasses him and Wiz yet again for a one-off gag like he's done in some past episodes and that's it, no strings attached. Nothing gets brought up about their connections at all. But hey, a fan can dream, right?

Personally, I find it somewhat tragic that two characters with so many similarities could potentially be friends, but circumstances result in them being sworn enemies instead. Hopefully Episode 150 can provide a conclusion to all of this, but if not...well, there's always a future episode I hope.
